The beef between old school and new school rappers continues to worsen following Pete Rock and Waka Flocka’s public feud on social media. Now, 21 Savage is getting involved, calling out “Og Rappers” for judging the new generation.
In a note posted on Twitter, the “Bank Account” rapper wrote, “Why do so many of these ‘Og Rappers’ judge the new generation? They say we make drug user music like making drug selling music is better what’s the difference?”
21 Savage then asked why the older generation won’t acknowledge that “rap is the number one genre of music right now” and said artists have been doing drugs since the 1970s. “Artists been snorting cocaine and smoking crack since the 70s and 80s did y’all forget that? Instead of judging how about y’all make a change.”
He added, “If the message in the previous generation of rap was so good why did so many of our parents abandon us for crack? Why we still killing each other? Don’t use us as the scape goat! Our music is a reflection of what’s going on in our community and all we doing is using our talent to escape that community.”
Over the weekend, Pete Rock called out Waka Flocka after Waka said he feels like the JAY-Z or Nas of this generation. The legendary producer didn’t take kindly to the comments, firing back on Instagram. “Our generation didn’t experiment with pills or syrup or anything synthetic,” he wrote. He added, “Yeah yall different but nothing of what nas krs kane jay z or any official rapper has ever taught you.”
